Big Mountain – Massage Ingrid is a fully qualified Swedish, remedial, sports and Indian head massage therapist. A keen competitive runner, having completed several marathons, half marathons, 10k’s and duathlons, and a skier for many years, Ingrid is very aware of the benefits of regular massage when taking part in events and activities – especially those of a very energetic nature such as skiing.
Generally, massage is great for improving circulation, reducing pain, relaxing, healing (improved circulation improves healing time) and energising.
Specifically, sports massage can:
- help to prepare your muscles for action when included in your warm up,
- improve flexibility which allows full range of movement and helps training for longer at a higher level,
- increase circulation of blood, oxygen and nutrients being transported to the muscles,
- increase circulation of lymph and venous blood which speeds up drainage of waste products and detoxifying,
- reduce muscle tension after exertion,
- speed up recovery time,
- speed up repair time – the muscles heal quicker with less scar tissue, and any scar tissue that does form is laid down in the direction of the muscle fibres so is less likely to re-injure,
- help to maintain a healthy structure which is essential to avoid chronic conditions developing, and help to keep you in peak condition,
- improve body awareness,
- promote relaxation which in turn can increase alertness and lead to better concentration and focus,
- soothe aching and overworked muscles after the event, encouraging repair,
- help to decongest muscles and speed up drainage of lactic acid,
- make you feel good, and if you feel good you can go out and ski all day tomorrow!
